In recent days, Russian occupation forces have again intensified their fighting for the city of Bakhmut (Donetsk region). They have deployed additional troops to the area.

This was reported by the British Ministry of Defense, citing British intelligence.

According to the report, in recent days, the occupiers have “regained some momentum” in the battles for Bakhmut, although their advance has “largely stopped” since the end of March.

Intelligence suggests that Russian troops may have achieved some success in Bakhmut.

– The Russian Federation has made further progress and is now likely to have advanced into the city center and captured the western bank of the Bakhmutka River. Ukraine’s key supply route 0506 to the west of the city is likely to be under serious threat,” the statement said.

The intelligence service clarified that the Russian command is likely to have deployed additional regular forces to the area, including airborne troops. In addition, the occupiers began to use artillery more effectively.

According to the intelligence, it is likely that at the local level, Wagner’s private military company and regular Russian troops “suspended their ongoing feud and improved cooperation.”

The day before, the press service of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that a positional war was taking place in Bakhmut, street fighting, and the situation was constantly changing. At that time, half of Bakhmut was controlled by the Ukrainian military, and the other half by the occupiers.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently called the situation in Bakhmut very difficult. He assured that if there is a danger of encirclement of Ukrainian troops, “the right decisions will be made.”
