There is strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the US Congress. This position is shared by the majority of lawmakers from both Democratic and Republican parties.

This was emphasized by U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during an event organized by The Atlantic.

He emphasized that support for Ukraine is also observed among American society.

Watching now

– Some of the polls I’ve seen recently show that there is strong and sustained support for our assistance to Ukraine. In terms of Congress, yes, there are some loud voices that are taking a different tactic. But if you look at the majorities in both parties, the support is there and it’s sustained,” Blinken emphasized.

He mentioned Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Mike McCaul. These are influential lawmakers who express clear support for our country.

Commenting on the Ukrainian Armed Forces counteroffensive, Blinken said that it is difficult, but Ukrainian soldiers have made real progress. The Secretary of State recalled the liberation of more than 50% of the territories that Russian troops have seized since February 2022.

– They are now waging a counteroffensive in the South and East. It is difficult, and there is a good reason for this: the Russians have had many months to build up their defense. But the Ukrainians are making real progress,” said Blinken.

He once again emphasized that it is up to Ukraine to determine how the war will end. Regarding the possibility of a diplomatic settlement, Blinken recalled the key US principle: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.

The Secretary of State explained that the just and lasting peace that Ukrainians seek should reflect “the basic principles that underlie the UN Charter. These are the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The point is to prevent such aggression from “happening again in a year, two years, five years.”

As you know, in the evening of September 28, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly supported the allocation of $300 million for Ukraine.

The Congress is also considering a request from the Joe Biden administration for additional funding for Ukraine in the amount of $24.1 billion in the military, economic and humanitarian spheres.
