The United States will continue to supply Ukraine with long-range ATACMS ballistic missiles.
This was confirmed by Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on a Ukrainian TV channel.
He answered in the affirmative when asked whether the delivery of the first batch of ATACMS meant that the United States would provide them “on a regular basis and in larger quantities” in the future.
Kuleba clarified that this was the result of agreements between Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Joe Biden reached in late September in Washington.
– “If you read between the lines of the president’s (Zelenskyy’s – Ed.) speech after the meeting with Biden, you could understand that a very important decision was made… So we thank the United States for fulfilling the agreements and strengthening our firepower,” Kuleba emphasized.
The Minister also responded to the remark that the provided ATACMS missiles are “quite old.”
According to him, it is not about the year of manufacture. For Ukraine, the main thing is “to shoot and kill the enemy.”
– There is a saying: if you knew what sausage was made of, you would never eat it. If you knew what kind of weapon fires at the occupier and destroys it quite effectively and in what years it was made, you would not think so critically,” the Foreign Minister said.
As Kuleba explained, the main thing is that they managed to unblock the supply of ATACMS missiles. The next step will be “only to expand the number, range, and modification.”
Ukraine has now received missiles with a range of up to 165 km, not 300 km.
What is known about the provision of ATACMS
The first use of ATACMS missiles took place on the night of October 17. Then the Ukrainian military attacked airfields in the temporarily occupied Berdiansk and Luhansk.
Nine Russian helicopters, occupiers’ special equipment, an air defense launcher, ammunition depots were destroyed, and runways were damaged.
On the evening of October 17, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine’s use of ATACMS. The Ukrainian Air Force emphasized that the receipt of these missiles would have a significant impact on the frontline, as Russian troops would be forced to move their equipment.
The White House has confirmed that Ukraine will receive ATACMS with a range of up to 165 km. This is probably the first version of the ATACMS Block I. It is equipped with a cluster warhead with 950 warheads.
Western media reported that Ukraine had received “less than a dozen” of these missiles.
The maximum range of ATACMS missiles in other modifications is up to 300 km.
