Will make serious adjustments at the front: Ignat on the first use of ATACMS
Ukraine’s receipt of US long-range ballistic missiles ATACMS will have a significant impact on the frontline. Russian troops will be forced to move their equipment.
Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this on the air of the United News telethon.
He called the first use of ATACMS in Ukraine “a landmark day for the missile forces.”
– Of course, this will make serious adjustments at the front today. You can see that it is possible to hit targets flawlessly, filigree and very accurately. And without any chances for the enemy,” he emphasized.
Ihnat expressed doubts about the ability of Russian air defense, in particular the S-400 systems, to shoot down these missiles.
After all, ATACMS is a ballistic missile. Such missiles rise high into the sky, actually to the stratosphere, and from there return to earth, falling down at high speed.
– The very fact of striking at such distances with this type of weapon, against which Russia cannot actually counteract anything now, already indicates that the situation will change. And the enemy will move, as it was with strategic aviation when the “cotton” occurred at airfields in Russia,” Ihnat noted.
He emphasized that the allies are consistent in helping our country. And Ukraine is fulfilling the promises it made to the United States about the non-use of American weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Ihnat added that at the same time, “no one is preventing us from liberating our territory, which was demonstrated today by this successful attack.”
What is known about the first use of ATACMS
On the night of October 17, the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a successful operation called DRAGONFLY, striking airfields in the temporarily occupied Berdiansk and Luhansk.
Nine Russian helicopters, occupiers’ special equipment, an air defense launcher, and ammunition depots were destroyed. The runways of the airfields were damaged.
After the operation, there were speculations online that the Ukrainian military may have used ATACMS missiles for the first time.
Later, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine’s use of ATACMS.
