The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, is sure that despite the blocking of the decision to grant Ukraine €50 billion by Hungary, it will receive this money.

He stated this in a comment to the press after the end of the meeting of EU leaders, which lasted until late at night.

– We have the tools to ensure that Ukraine can count on our support, there is a strong political will of 26 leaders to adopt this “mega package”. And this is the signal we want to send to Ukraine, – he emphasized.

Michel did not specify whether the EU would pass the decision bypassing Orban’s veto, but assured that they would fulfill their financial obligations to Ukraine.

– We have various tools to ensure that we fulfill our political promise, – he added.

The President of the European Council noted that the package was not rejected, but postponed, so the EU leaders agreed on an extraordinary summit, at which they will consider this issue again.

The European Union was unable to agree on the allocation of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €50 billion until 2027 due to the position of Hungary, which imposed a veto.
