Shelling Of Chernihiv, Fighting In Irpin And Hostomel: March 24 Update On Situation In Regions
On February 24, 2022, Russia declared war on Ukraine. For a month now, the enemy has been shelling Ukrainian cities, destroying residential areas, and attacking civilians.
In the last 24 hours, the Russian invaders constantly shelled localities in Kyiv Oblast, particularly Yasnohorodka. Kotsiubynske, Bucha District, suffered mortar attacks. There was also fighting in Irpin and Hostomel. The information on victims is being verified.
The following are the updates by oblast administrations.
Chernihiv Oblast. The shelling of Chernihiv by the invaders, particularly of residential and industrial areas, intensified dramatically. In the evening of March 23, an ammonia pipeline was damaged at one of Chernihiv’s largest food processing plants. So far, no ammonia leakage has been reported. Locals have been warned about what to do in chemical hazard.
In Zhytomyr Oblast, a missile hit an industrial facility in Novohrad-Volynsky District. No deaths or injuries were reported.
In Kirovohrad Oblast, the night was peaceful. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, alarm sirens were sounded several times during the night.
The fighting continued and enemy convoys were moving in Okhtyrka District, Sumy Oblast. Elsewhere in the region, the night was relatively peaceful.
Kharkiv was under long-range missile attack but the enemy failed to make a thrust. Yesterday, two enemy aircraft were downed in Izium District. One person was killed by shelling in Old Saltiv.
In Zaporishia Oblast, the night was relatively peaceful. Things were calm in Volyn, Vinnytsia Oblast, Zakarpattia, Khmelnytsky Oblast, Ternopil, Cherkasy, Lviv Oblast, Poltava Oblast, Rivne Oblast, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa.
In Luhanks Oblast, the enemy shelled Sievierodonetsk, Lysychansk, Rubizhne, Kreminne, Novodruzhesk, and Voyevodivka. In Rubizhne, the invaders used banned white phosphorus bombs. Four people died, including two children. Six people were injured.
Donetsk Oblast. The fighting continues in Avdiivka and Ocheretyne. Bakhmut was attacked yesterday. Mariupol continues to be under siege and every humanitarian shipment has failed to get through. The invaders continue to level Maryinka.
In Mykolaiv Oblast, the night was relatively peaceful.
Gunfire and big explosions could be heard at night in Chornobayivka, Kherson Oblast. Explosions have been reported in communities near Snihurivka.
Notably, theater director Oleksandr Kniha was rescued from captivity late last night.
Zaporizhia Oblast. This morning, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the Orsk landing support shipвражеский корабль Орск near Berdiansk. Two more ships were damaged. A 3,000 fuel tank was also destroyed. The extent of damage inflicted on the enemy is being verified.
