Russians illegally place children deported from Ukraine in their families – Denisova

Propaganda Russian media reported that 27 orphans from the self-proclaimed “DPR” were taken to Aprelivka near Moscow. They were transferred to temporary care for up to ten local families.
Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova told about it on her Facebook page.
– Currently, there is no information on whether such children have the status of orphans or deprived of parental care and whether the children have relatives who want to take them to their families,- she said.
Ukraine also does not know the living conditions of children, their state of health, and whether the opinion of children was taken into account when placing them in such families.
According to Denisova, the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia is a crime that falls under the definition of human trafficking under international law.
The actions of the Russians violate the state’s obligation to ensure the rights of the child in armed conflict, as provided for in Article 38 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
It also violates Article 49 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, which prohibits the forced relocation or deportation of persons from the occupied territories.
Denisova appealed to the UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations during Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these crimes and Russia’s violations of children’s rights in Ukraine.
