Grain initiative. NATO will put political pressure on Russia – Chernev

NATO will not use military instruments of pressure on Russia, such as convoys, to ensure the safe passage of merchant ships with Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea, as it does not want a direct confrontation with Russia.
According to Yehor Chernev, deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, the Alliance will use political pressure on Russia.
He said this on the air of the national TV marathon United News.
– “But it is also very important to point out once again who is responsible for this situation for the global South, those who will not receive grain from Ukraine. We can see that there is already a reaction to this summit, which will be held in Russia, and 17 out of 58 countries have lowered their representation, only at the level of top officials,” he said, answering the host’s question.
Chernev noted that public pressure from all sides, including NATO, the UN African Union and China, would force the Kremlin to return to the grain initiative.
As a reminder, a meeting of the new NATO-Ukraine Council is scheduled for 26 July, which was convened by EU Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy due to the situation in the Black Sea.
The two sides will meet to “consult on the latest developments and discuss the transport of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea,” NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said, noting that the meeting will be held at ambassadorial level.
